The essential first step of genealogy is to gather up reliable information – names, dates, places and events – of the individuals in a family. These pieces of information form a skeleton of information of the individuals in families. To get a whole picture of just who these people were and what their lives were like requires digging deep into their social history and writing their stories. By applying local history and world events to the skeleton of information we know much more about people. We dress the skeletons of information up in a way that completes their family stories and breathes life back into them. Dressing Family Skeletons is all about some wonderful experiences I’ve had to gain a deeper understanding of my collective families’ past, and to write their stories.
